Playing games is fun, playing games that teach you stuff is also fun! We have some great educational games for kids that will give them a head start in life and keep them entertained.

One of the best fun tools for teaching kids letters and numbers is a simple sandbox. All you need is a tray deep enough to prevent spillages, a plastic storage tray from a discount store works wonders.  You'll also need either some salt or some non-toxic sand.  With a pencil, the little ones can draw to their hearts content.  A stick or rod with a handle is perfect for smoothing the granules over and "resetting the board".  Kids can use this reusable playbox to draw numbers, shapes, and anything else they like.  Set them challenges to draw numbers and shapes, with supervision it's amazing how fast motion-assisted learning can help them pick up and reinforce their education.  It's also great for fine motor skills development!

Make fun upper and lower case letter matching game with coloured balls, a permanent marker and some empty cardboard toilet rolls.  Simply put the lower case letters on the balls and the upper case letters on the toilet rolls, the game is simple - the kids just have to match them up. To make it more challenging for slightly older kids, put some of the uppercase letters on the toilet rolls AND on the balls. Balancing the ball and arranging the letters is part of the fun!

Create your own geoboard with a piece of wood that  can be as small as 20cm x 10cm or as big as you like. You'll also need some nails and some coloured rubber bands. This is great for fine motor skills and for teaching kids all about shapes and colours. They can play to their hearts content with the rubber bands. Just use a ruler to measure out evenly spaced dots on the piece of wood, roughly 3cm apart, then hammer a nail into each dot, just make sure the nail doesn't go through to the other side.
